LGC visits stunning landscape by Piet Oudolf near Omaha
On June 26, 2018, 22 lucky members of the Loveland Garden Club visited a stunning property, in the Loess Hills, near Council Bluffs, Iowa. The property consists of extensive gardens designed by renowned Dutch landscape designer, Piet Oudolf, a beautiful contemporary home designed by architect Wallace Cunningham, and sculptures throughout the landscape from artists around the world, including several from Omaha’s Jun Kaneko.
Design of the landscape and gardens was begun in the fall and winter months of 2014/2015. Piet Oudolf is an influencial Dutch garden designer, nurseryman and author. He is a leading figure of the “New Perennial” movement, using bold drifts of herbaceous color. Piet is the designer of many significant public garden spaces, including the High Line in New York City, Battery Park, also in NYC and the Lurie Garden in Millennium Park in Chicago. The homeowners pursued Oudolf as their landscape designer after looking through one of his many published books on landscape design and plant choice.
After an extensive tour, our gracious host offered the club members light refreshments. All are hoping to return for another look in the fall.
